A Drywall Shop That Starts With a Moisture Meter

Braunmedicalmedia is a drywall crew working out of Arlington Ave in Riverside. We hang and finish board on remodels, additions and garage conversions, but the work that fills most of the calendar is repair after water, and that is the part of the trade we have opinions about.

Nearly every wet wall we are called to has already been looked at by somebody. A plumber has fixed the pipe. A restoration truck has run fans for two days. A homeowner has cut a hole with a utility knife to see what was behind the stain. What is usually missing is a straight answer to the only question that decides whether the patch lasts: how far does the damage actually go.

We answer it with a meter rather than a guess. Pin readings into the paper face, pinless readings across the field, taken outward from the wet area until they match the dry part of the same wall. That reading marks the cut, and we show you the pencil line before anything comes out. Sometimes it is smaller than the customer feared. Often it is larger than the stain, because gypsum wicks water sideways through its core and along its paper facing well past the point where minerals dry on the surface and leave a mark.

How We Work

• Read before you cut. The meter comes out of the van before the saw does. You see the numbers and the marked line.
• Dry the cavity, then close it. Framing and any remaining insulation come back to the same reading as the rest of the house before new board goes on.
• Match what is there. Same board thickness, same texture, sampled on a scrap and checked against your wall in daylight.
• Say no when no is the answer. If the board is sound and the stain only needs a shellac based primer and paint, we will tell you that instead of selling a cut out.
